This was a very special project for me as these guys are longtime buddies from Sweden. Over the last 5 or 6 years I have seen these guys pick up instruments without knowing what to do with them and figure them out together as a band. Andreas Backlund's songwriting has steadily progressed over the years and is in full bloom on the two songs we recorded. The Ono Soul sound has expanded and evolved into something you can sink your teeth into.
With the connections the Ono boys have in the music scene of their hometown Avesta, Sweden we were able to borrow almost all of the gear needed for this project. We got a Behringer Eurodesk mixer from the local club, which I was excited to use for the first time after hearing good things about them. A local rental company owed them a favor and coughed over 8 decent mics. My only wish would have been to get more than 2 condensers so I could mic the high-hat and ride individually. The last problem of capturing the audio was solved with the band buying a Terratec 8 in/out A/D converter.
While being limited to a budget of next to nothing, 8 tracks to record on and only a hand full of mics and equipment, I am fairly pleased with this practice space recording.
